Henry Purcell
（1659～1695)
イングランドの作曲家。
1674年にウエストミンスターアビーのオルガン調律師になり
1677年には王室付きのヴァイオリン合奏団の専属作曲家に就任。
1679年の暮れにウエストミンスターアビーの専属オルガン奏者、
1682年にはチャペル・ロイヤル付きのオルガン奏者（兼,聖歌隊員）の地位に就いた。
多忙な生活を送っていたパーセルは、風邪をこじらせて1695年11月21日に死去。
劇音楽に多くの作品を残し、中でも"Dido and Aeneas"は初のイングランドオペラとして有名。
